They are commonly caused by repetitive stress from activities such as running, particularly following a sudden increase in training load or intensity. The condition develops when the muscles, tendons, and bone tissue around the tibia become overworked.
We never recommend running through shin pain. If symptoms are not managed appropriately, they can become persistent and may progress to a bone stress injury, such as a stress fracture.
At Podium Physiotherapy, we have extensive experience in assessing and managing shin pain. We provide a comprehensive assessment to identify the underlying causes of your symptoms and guide you on the most effective management strategy moving forward.
Your treatment plan may include:
- A targeted rehabilitation programme tailored to your needs
- Advice on modifying your training to keep you as active as possible
- A bespoke return-to-running programme if time away from training has been required
- Guidance on footwear and insoles
- Adjunct treatments such as dry needling, where appropriate
Our goal is to help you recover effectively and return to training with confidence.
